ST. LOUIS, Missouri (November 22, 2016) – The National Wood Flooring Association has announced its nominees for the NWFA Education & Research Foundation 2017 Legacy scholarships.

• Roland Holder, founder of Gentry & Holder Floors, was a 59-year industry veteran. He was regarded as one of the most influential instructors in the early years of NOFMA. Holder was inducted into the NWFA Hall of Fame in 1994.

• Eugen Lägler, a German machinist, founded Lägler Company. He revolutionized wood floor sanding by engineering a belt sander for use on the job site. He was inducted into the NWFA Hall of Fame in 2008.

• David Lynn, Jr. served as President and CEO of Cherokee Wholesalers, Inc., a 40-year-old, family-run distribution company in Alexandria, Va. He worked with several manufacturing partners to convince them of the benefits of wholesale distribution.

NWFA Education & Research Foundation Legacy scholarships were established to recognize those individuals who made significant contributions to the wood flooring industry. Each scholarship requires a $5,000 total contribution to fund a scholarship in the nominee’s name. To date, a $2,000 contribution has been received from TLC Custom Designs.

NWFA has awarded $6,250 in scholarships so far this year for students attending NWFA hands-on training. One scholarship per training event is awarded, with priority given to NWFA members. Financial need is not a requirement for these scholarships.

The NWFA Education & Research Foundation (NERF) was established to provide industry research and educate future generations of wood flooring professionals. Thanks to the generosity of its members, NWFA has conducted such research as the Life Cycle Analysis of Wood Flooring and awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships.

The National Wood Flooring Association is a not-for-profit trade organization, with more than 3,100 member companies worldwide, dedicated to educating consumers, architects, designers, specifiers and builders in the uses and benefits of wood flooring. NWFA members receive the best in educational training, benefits, technical resources and networking, to advance their professionalism and success. The NWFA is located at 111 Chesterfield Industrial Boulevard, Chesterfield, MO 63005, and can be contacted at 800.422.4556 (USA & Canada), 636.519.9663 (local and international), or online at www.nwfa.org.
